Preparing Children for Life

By ensuring children have access to, and are enrolled in, high quality PreK-12 schools that are tackling learning gaps and intentionally preparing children to be creative, innovative and informed problem solvers, we can effectively mitigate challenges and prepare children to succeed in school, work and life.

In 2022, only 35% of ALL third graders across Wisconsin were proficient in reading

These are all-time lows in student achievement in the modern era, and achievement rates have continued a precipitous decline over the last 15 years. (Source: Wisconsin DPI, Forward Exam)

The Rates are Even Lower for Students of Color

By ensuring children have access to, and are enrolled in, high quality PreK-12 schools that are tackling learning gaps and intentionally preparing children to be creative, innovative and informed problem solvers, we can effectively mitigate challenges and prepare children to succeed in school, work and life.

Disparities in Academic Achievement

8% of Black, 14% of American Indian, 18% of Latino, 30% of Asian and 43% of White third graders read proficiently at their grade level.

We are advocating for Wisconsin’s Future Leaders

One City must raise the difference every year through private fundraising

One City receives just $10,203 in public funding; $9,264 in state funding, $939 in federal funding, and $0 in local public per pupil funding.

Across Wisconsin, traditional public-school districts receive an average of $14,987 per pupil in state and local  funding.

What We Need

With adequate funding we will be able to address these disparities within One City Schools’ student population.

01. Close the funding Gap between traditional public schools and independent charter schools.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse varius enim in eros.

02. Fund ALL students EQUALLY in Wisconsin

03. Increase the special education REIMBURSEMENT rate to 60%

What Families Are Saying

One City is not just a school, it is a community that YOU can be a part of!

OCS provides excellent opportunities of exposure to diversity; from race/cultures and age ranges in the staff and student population, to physical abilities and gender (staff being both men and women). There’s also diversity in the recreational academies/activities provided at OCS.

The difference in how early learning is being taught at One City is something I'm grateful my daughter and family get to be a part of! We're excited about all that is to come in the coming school year and beyond. Being a part of One City's family has also brought my family closer!

Our experiences have brought us closers with other families and encouraged us to be a greater part of our kiddos learning experiences. My daughter is not only growing academically, but she is also building character and leadership skills!

My husband and I were so excited to learn about the all-day 4K program as it showed me right away that this school is not only a place for students, but parents, and community members. My son can explain how he or others display compassion, persistence, integrity, self-respect, and risk.
